End of British Isles Cruise

Our last port was at St Peters Port, Guernsey, in the Channel Isles. As you can see from these photos from our balcony the weather as not great and the tenders looked like they were going through very choppy water, so we made the decision not to get off the ship. It took until 1.30pm to get all the people that wanted to go ashore off the ship as the tender ride took about 30 -40 minutes and it was quite rough.

We had a game of bridge planned for 2.30 pm so that is how we filled in our afternoon.

Our last day at sea was quite rainy in the morning and this is my attempt to photograph the White Cliffs of Dover between bridge hands. We had a bridge lesson at 9 am then 2 games of bridge for the day so the time passed very quickly. By afternoon is was beautiful weather – just as we finished this cruise.

White Cliffs of Dover – very poor shot – missed because of Bridge

All the bridge group had dinner together on the last evening and the presentations were made to the winning pairs – obviously we were not in the running! We really enjoyed everyone’s company for the past month and got to play a lot of bridge together which was very nice.

These last photos are from our balcony when we docked in Amsterdam on the last morning. Back to cloudy and bleak again!

We did not have to leave the ship as we are ‘back to back’ cruisers. We had to go to Level 4 at 9 am and be escorted to the terminal to go through the passport check, get our new cruise cards, then return to the ship.

We have moved from Cabin 6114 which was at the front of the ship meaning we had to walk the full length of the ship for every meal. This is obviously good for us, but I think it has contributed to my levels of tiredness! We are now in cabin 7269, at the back of the ship, so we are much closer to the dining rooms and other activities we like to do. We only need to walk the full length to go to the theatre which will be mostly once per day. Yesterday, I think I did that walk return trip about 8 times as both bridge games were in the dining rooms. So glad to be closer now!

Tonight we set sail for  our Baltic cruise for 12 nights, going through Scandinavia, up to St Petersburgh and back to Amsterdam.

  1. Hi Ruth and Paul, Great to have spent the last three weeks travelling with you. We’re now in Amsterdam and enjoying the sites. Wondering if you could check whether I left my Honfleur blue denim cap in our cabin 6110. I realised it wasn’t with me when we were off the boat. John was our cabin man, probably same as yours. Let us know how you go. What’s your first port of call. Many thanks and if you find it we’ll pay for postage when you get home.
    Cheers Marianne
