This is our last port before returning to Amsterdam. These are shots from our balcony on arrival.
Paul was never going to get a on another Hop on Hop off bus after our experience in Stockholm. But I managed to convince him to try the bus without even considering the canal boat ride. It turned out to be a much better day. Again the bus was at the port to collect us. We just did a full loop and returned to the ship. The buses all missed a few stops as the French President was in town to meet with the Queen. I guess that’s why Mary was not out to greet the Aussies! The traffic was extremely slow and again we can see why people ride bicycles. It is a much quicker way to get around and it is all so flat. This would not work in other cities. Copenhagen hopes to be carbon neutral by 2025. What I did notice though was the huge number of local buses with very few passengers. This was actually the cause of a lot of the traffic holdups around the city.
When we returned to the pier we went to the bar across from the ship as we had some kroner to spend. It was a real eye opener. It was a shisha bar. I was very hesitant when I saw ashtrays on the tables inside. I thought, I will only be a here a few minutes. It ended up being a very pleasant few hours s no one smoked cigarettes inside and we saw one man using the shisha water pipe at a table some distance from us. See Paul’s video for more on this.
The toilets were downstairs and that was another surprise. It was called the White Bar. All white furniture, pink lights on the dance floor and very new and clean.
I left Paul in the bar to enjoy a few beers and went further along to the souvenir shops for a while. They actually accepted kroner, euros and US dollars in that area near the pier. I am not sure if they would have accepted all those currencies in town.
So overall we had a great day in Copenhagen, with a mix of bus sightseeing and having a drink with the locals.
Wow you two are having a fabulous time. Great photos and stories. Enjoy the rest of your trip xx
Hi Lynda, thanks we are having the best time with lots to see and do. Exploring Amsterdam at present and it is really a unique place – they even sell cannabis lollypops and cookings at the markets for one euro – talk about starting the kids early. There must be 12 million bicycles here and not a helmet in sight. Look forward to catching up when we get back. Paul
Lovely pics. I missed Denmark on my travels so it was great to see some of it through your eyes
Some rain here today & cold
Bridge for the under the 25s partners didn’t work real well as a lot of us couldn’t find partners so we missed our game. It was Mims plan to get them interested
Looking forward to seeing you home
