Deauville

Deauville

On Saturday 28 July we headed to Deauville by bus. It took about 80 minutes to get there. We had never heard of it before and we were delighted to find it a beautiful town.

It was full of beautiful buildings, has 3 casinos and apparently has a huge horse racing venue.

On the way we saw petrol selling for 1.72 euro ($2.71 Aus) – made home look good!

We had some free time so we sought out some French food and beer. We tried a Croque monsieur  (baked or fried ham and cheese sandwich)and a Crepe confiture (translates to jam pancake) but was actually a lovely thin crepe with orange jam.

Ruth has been braver with her beer tasting and we both enjoyed a brew – guess which one is for Ruth!

Then we found a supermarket to get some supplies as our Chateau is nowhere near any shops. It was like an Aldi. Pack your own and had the most delightful plastic trolleys for small amounts of shopping I felt like a kid playing with a toy trolley.

At 1 pm we met the group at a restaurant for lunch before heading back to the Chateau.

We then played bridge from 5-8 pm before having a light dinner.

    1. H Julie, hope your dad is going OK. Paul is loving doing his videos so we are glad you enjoy them. Cheers Ruth

  2. Lovely to hear from you. Weather appears to be kind to you & I love the lovely sights.
We all played in a state wide pairs comp today.
Cards were very difficult to bid, & I finished the day exhausted
Weather has warmed up a little but still no rain

    Stay safe & enjoy

    1. Nice to hear from you Noelle. Yes the weather has been kind this week. Not so hot. I have been following the bridge results from hole. It was great to see young Abbie do so well the other day. Ruth

  3. The architecture in France is so enchanting. A bit like a fairytale.
You certainly look a great group and hope you are managing to play some good bridge.

    1. Yes we are lucky to be travelling with a very nice group of people and the bridge is good too. Paul and I are no match for the others so we are getting beaten easily, but is a relaxing way to spend a holiday.

  4. Loving your updates & videos Paul.
Enjoy Bridge & the crepes of course! I hope your shopping spree in the supermarket went well Tosh. Would have been an interesting when you tried eating your selection of goodies when you got back to the chateau!!

    1. Hi Lyn, we stayed home last night and had our goodies instead of going to the restaurant with the others. Must admit you can’t beat a good jatz cracker – the ones we bought here were very strange.
