Beaumont and Honfleur

Beaumont-en-Auge and Honfleur

At 9.30 our coach headed to the ancient village of Beaumont –en-Auge, dating back to the 1740’s. It was a quaint village at the top of a hill. Well worth a look around as you will see from the photos. Paul had coffee in the quaintest of cafes. Not one piece of furniture matched.

Our original itinerary was to go to Rouen but there were roadworks that would make the trip much longer than normal.

So after Beaumont-en-auge we went to the lovely town of Honfleur. We all thought Honfluer would a name linked to flowers, but it is actually angled of the river.

This was a free time stop we could shop and  have lunch etc.

We checked out lots of cafes and finally chose one – but not the right one. I had enjoyed the sole so much a few days ago, I chose it again, This time 2 our of 10. Paul also chose Fish soup again – also 2 out of 10. What a disappointment after our previous experience.

However I did try the cider as this is a famous cider area, and the sweet cider was delicious!

We just spent our time wandering and I was hoping to get a few souvenirs but nothing grabbed me. The town was pretty crowded but lots of cafes full to the brim.

On the way home we drove through Caen and Svetlana told us the history of this town and we saw the churches, castle remains and the new areas that have been built since the war as 65% of this town was destroyed by allied bombing as they tried to get the Germans out of the town. This battle lasted 7 weeks before the allies were victorious and liberated the people of Caen.
