Our stay at the Chateau

Well we have been here for 5 days now and thought we would give you an overview of how it all works.

If you watch Paul’s movie first it will all make sense.

Breakfast is served each morning according to the time our bus is departing. Chantelle is the Chateau staff member who looks after us. She seems to work at all odd hours depending on what needs to be done.

For breakfast she provides scrambled eggs, a variety of breads, cheeses, marmalades, jams, cold meats, croissants, pastries, fruit tea, coffee and juice.

It is pretty much self serve and all 27 of us fit around the huge dining table.

So far we have had 3 dinners at the Chateau. First night was a medieval feast in the dining room.  Second was a light dinner of baguettes as we had already had a substantial lunch in Deauville at a restaurant. Third one was a BBQ cooked downstairs and then eaten in the main dining room (green room).

Chantelle also looks after our rooms each day. It a basic bed make and tidy up. Towels are changed after a few days.

She also does private washing/ironing jobs for people at 15 euros per bag. She is a very busy lady!

The downstairs area with the pool, jaccuzzi, theatre room, saunas and table tennis table looks beautiful. They had had to keep all the original odd shaped wooden doors due to heritage regulations and the rest is done with marble and mirrors. It is extremely slippery when wet so we have been very careful each time we have ventured down for a swim or jaccuzzi.

Level  1 and 2 are the guest rooms. We are on Level  1 and our room faces west so it does not get hot in the morning, and by afternoon the temperature is cool enough that we get a lovely breeze if we open our window. We have slept with the window open every night and we can her the fountain at the back of the chateau – it is very relaxing. It is so different sleeping in cool fresh air instead of air conditioning. Last night it did not get dark until around 10 pm and we find we wake up about 7 am.

The extra building you saw on Paul’s video also has guest rooms so there is a group over there. It is only about 30 meters from the main building.

On the ground level the rooms are themed. The blue room is very formal. The yellow room is the Chinese room. There is also a pink room that people are staying in. I haven’t seen it but the colour theme continues.

We have found this week to be a good media and technology detox. We have still been doing our blog, but there are no TVs  and we are usually busy playing bridge or touring. We had not realised how good this would be.

  1. Thanks for taking such beautiful photos, guys! Enjoying our experiences with you both!

    1. Yes it was. Thank you for taking the time to reply. We are now in Brugge. More soon.

      Paul

  2. Hilarious Paul, but what a wonderful place. I guess my couple of master points mean I’ll be headed in the other direction…… especially because the director needs to visit me regularly.
So pleased you are loving your trip.
