Liverpool

Our stay in Liverpool was very short due to the huge tidal changes in the Mersey River. These pictures are from our balcony when we docked. A little bit of blue sky was creeping through!

When we left the ship to go ashore we had a very steep walk up a gangway from the floating dock. It was a definite work out for your calves.

Our group was taking the Mersey River Ferry and the Hop on Hop off bus tour.

We arrived just in time to catch the ferry at 10 am. It is called the Razzle Dazzle Ferry and the ride takes about 50 minutes to crisscross the river and return. I am sure if there was not a famous Jerry and Pacemakers song called ‘Ferry cross the Mersey’,  no one would bother doing this trip as a tourist. Perhaps it was because it was a drizzly day that it seems a bit boring and bleak.

I was surprised to see a wind farm right in the city next to the river.

Next we caught an 11am, hop on hop off bus and decided to do one loop that takes about an hour. I would love to have gone to the Beatles Story but on this trip there wasn’t enough time to do it justice.

We had to be back on board by 3pm and the ship left at 3.30 pm. The tide changes by almost 9 meters and if the ship did not leave it would be grounded.

I was surprised to hear in the commentary that they are trying to upgrade the port to take even larger ships. My logic says they would have even less time in port than we had. Perhaps they are wider and shallower than our ship – not sure!

We both really like Liverpool and if ever we come back to Europe we will plan more time here.
